Lucyna von Bachman, 1° v. Staszewska, 2° v. Ćwierczakiewiczowa (1829-1901) was the author of well-known cookbooks, but also a very popular Warsaw personality. She ran a cooking school for ladies, but also worked as a journalist. For 28 years she cooperated with well-known Polish journal “Bluszcz”, where she wrote on fashion, cuisine and households. Books written by her were considered as a must-read position for every housewife of that time. The cookbook “365 dinners for five zlotys” included recipes for 3 or 4 course dinner for each day of the year. The book also included the recipes for various holidays (e.g. Christmas) or fasting days.
