The Women’s Congress in Warsaw in 1917 was one of the key events in the history of the Polish women’s movement, organised during the First World War, when Poland was struggling to regain its independence. The event brought together social and political activists who sought to obtain civil rights for women and to increase their role in public life.

The main demand of the congress was that women be granted full suffrage, both active and passive, an innovative demand compared to other European countries at the time. The role of women in education, work and social life was also discussed, highlighting their contribution to the national liberation struggle.

The congress helped to raise public awareness of gender equality and was an important step towards granting women the right to vote, which became a reality in 1918, shortly after Poland regained its independence.
