First transport of polish-political (including few Jews) prisoners came to Auschwitz Concentration Camp on 14th of June 1940. This day till today is commemorated as the day that the horrible story of KL Auschwitz began, with 728 prisoners brought from prison in Tarnów. However, technically first prisoners were brought to Auschwitz on May 20 – German criminals. They work as functionary prisoners; their job was to keep other prisoners under strict control, that in turn gave them additional privileges and commodities.
