The growing economic crisis of the 1970s in Polish Peoples Republic did not end with the start of a new decade. Economic and moral unrest grew significantly and resulted in a wave of strikes that broke out throughout Poland in the summer of 1980. As a result of negotiations initiated with the authorities August Agreements were adopted. 4 separate agreements between the strikers and government happened in Szczecin on 30th of August, in Gdańsk on 31st of August, in Jastrzębie-Zdrój on 3rd of September and in Dąbrowa Górnicza on 11th of September 1980. As a one of the results of the agreements Solidarity movement was recognized by the states a trade union, as those that operated thus far did not meet the expectations of workers. In addition, the government has committed itself to limiting censorship, rehire fired workers and creating an economic reform.
