Králický Sněžník Mountains, the peak of Klepáč – Kralický Sněžník
Fact of the Czech figure „The intersection of Europe”
Part of the „Transfer of the culture” topic
On the Czech-Polish state border in the Jeseníky Mountains there is a mountain peak Klepáč with a wooden lookout tower, which is not very well known at first sight. This peak, however, belongs to the Králický Sněžník massif and forms the so-called watershed, i.e. the border between the three main European basins.
The Morava River, which flows into the Danube and from there into the Black Sea, rises directly on the southern slope of Králický Sněžník. To the north and east is the Oder River basin, which ends in the Baltic Sea at Štětín. The streams on the western slope of the Klepáč then flow into the Elbe, which flows into the North Sea. In addition to being a watershed, the mountain ridge of Králický Sněžník also forms the border between Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia and is therefore a border point with several meanings. At present, Králický Sněžník is a protected landscape area on both the Czech and Polish sides.
