Part of the Legacy of the Jagiellonians and Habsburgs dynasties” topic

In year 1515, the assembly of Jagiellonian and Habsburg monarchs in Vienna decided the dynastic future of realms under their reigns. Vladislaus II of Bohemia-Hungary, Sigismund I of Poland-Lithuania and the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I. The gathering resulted in normalization of affairs between the royal houses and marriage pact with great prospects for both sides. It provided Sigismund with great political success, as it broke and neutralized the dangerous anti-Polish alliance of Maximilian, Grand Duke of Muscovy and Sigismund’s rebellious vassal – the Order of Teutonic Knights. In years, however, Habsburgs turned out to be the major winners, as the unexpected death of childless Louis II in battle of Mohács brought their family upon the thrones of Bohemia and Hungary.
